The oversupply of calcium and phosphorus, is common in many high-protein pet foods - unfortunately, to the potential detriment of the dog or cat.
High-protein diets typically contain high inclusions of chicken meal, fish meal or turkey meal. Made of flesh, bones and cartilage, these ingredients are a high source of protein with bones providing a very rich & natural source of minerals.
When present in excess, the very ingredients that supply essential, health-lifting proteins can also cause unfavorable increases in mineral levels, with many high-protein dog foods reaching the established limit of calcium (2.5%) and phosphorus (1.6%).
BIOLOGICALLY APPROPRIATE ORIJEN IS MINERAL-BALANCED AND DOES NOT OVER SUPPLY CALCIUM OR PHOSPHORUS.
Rather than relying solely on conventional meat meals as the source of animal protein, ORIJEN uses high inclusions of fresh, de-boned meats that are low in mineral content – as well as specially prepared ‘low ash’ chicken, salmon and herring meals that utilize a lower ratio of bones to flesh, thereby reducing the total mineral content.
